I’m Terry Gibbins and I am a Technical Sales Engineer for Micromech, looking after the midlands and the south of England.
I have transferred from Unimatic Engineers Ltd at the end of 2006 along with Jim McPhail who was featured in the May newsletter of ‘meet the team’. So clearly I am also fairly new to the company.
I was born in Willesden, N.W.London and trained apprentice Instrument Maker at Evershed and Vignoles a motor manufacturer, yes in those days the UK made stepping motors. After spending some time in the Design office involved in linear motion and inspection equipment, I migrated to a ‘life on the road’.
I have been involved in sales and applications of Motion Control products for over 30 years and seen many changes in design, performance and technology. Many developments in equipment have been amazing and I have had the good fortune to witness these over the years. It has been very interesting to be a part of these changes and be involved in some very exciting and innovative projects.
As mentioned I was brought up in London where I met and then married Linda. We now live in the rural bit of Northamptonshire and been there for some 37 years, so I guess I am almost more a Midlander than a Londoner. In fact they may well soon adopt us.
We have two grown up daughters, along with a clutch of grand children, the latest a beautiful girl called Hannah just born in March this year. One of our daughters who is a Fire-fighter (sadly a dangerous job much in the news lately) lives a lovely life in Montrose, Scotland giving us the welcome excuse to travel north a fair amount.
Our family and grand children are very important to us and we are very happy to spend time with them. We enjoy our garden and particularly the surrounding countryside which we visit a great deal. Another favourite of ours is Yorkshire and the Lake District where we also like to spend some time as it is so relaxing there.
In addition to this I am a keen, but fair weather motorcyclist and for some years have made an annual pilgrimage in late August to the Manx G P, on the Isle of Man.
In my travels I look forward to meeting many more of you over the next few years.
Terry
