Eye Spyraflo, a look at bearing applications....Episode 21: Spyraflo assists in keeping things taped

A shipping supplies company launched a revolutionary new electric taper that they claim is the most effective and efficient tape dispenser they have ever produced. It was essential that it was reliable and would accurately and effortlessly dispense predetermined lengths of gummed paper tape. The new designed machine did just that.

Key to the design is the high coefficient of friction urethane wide-track feed and pinch rollers, which of course meant mechanical technical problems. Alignment of the rollers and other shafts in the mechanism was critical to ensure smooth, quiet and efficient operation. The ‘taper’ had to be competitively priced and so they used an all sheet metal construction and therefore the bearings had to be mounted in the sheet steel and the question of alignment became an issue. The company turned to Spyraflo who offered the ideal solution, their self-clinching, self-aligning Delrin bearings, which easily met their needs. The FSD-625 and FSD-375-AF bearings are used throughout the machine and test runs of the taper machine soon proved to the designers that they had a superior device.

Yet again Spyraflo helped a customer in a sticky situation where other bearing manufacturers could offer no solution.

Micromech is the UK and Eire distributor for these clever bearings, if you would like more information about them or perhaps a sample, then contact Clarissa on 01376 333333 or clarissa@micromech.co.uk
