Kollmorgen AKM2G Servo Motor delivers higher torque density, improved efficiency, and flexible configuration options compared with earlier AKM Series servo motors. As a result, it supports modern automation systems that require compact and powerful motion control. Engineers can therefore integrate the AKM2G into applications such as CNC machines, robotics, packaging systems, and automated production equipment.

More Torque in the Same Footprint

One of the key advantages of the AKM2G is its increased torque density. Engineers can achieve more power from the same motor size, which allows machine builders to increase performance without redesigning mounting layouts.

As a result, equipment upgrades become easier. In addition, machine designers can develop more compact systems without sacrificing output or reliability.

Wide Performance Range

The AKM2G series covers a broad range of power and torque requirements. Depending on the frame size, the motors deliver approximately 0.3 kW to 10 kW of power, while continuous torque ranges from 0.65 Nm up to 72 Nm.

Furthermore, the series includes six frame sizes and multiple stack lengths. Engineers can therefore select a motor that closely matches the needs of a specific automation application.

High Speed and Flexible Voltage Options

AKM2G motors can reach speeds of up to 8000 rpm in smaller frame sizes. Consequently, they support high-performance motion systems that require fast and accurate positioning.

In addition, the motors support flexible power integration. They operate with standard 120–480 VAC systems, while certain variants also support low-voltage applications from 24–96 VDC/AC.

Advanced Encoder Technology

The AKM2G also supports modern feedback systems such as the SFD-M (Smart Feedback Device – Multi-Turn) encoder.

This technology provides 24-bit resolution and tracks up to 65,536 rotations, which improves positioning accuracy. In addition, the battery-free energy-harvesting design supports single-cable connectivity. As a result, machine builders can reduce wiring complexity and improve reliability in demanding industrial environments.

Designed for Easy Integration

Engineers designed the AKM2G to support flexible system integration.

Standard models provide IP54 protection, while IP65 options support harsher environments. In addition, users can configure the motors with smooth or keyed shafts, optional 24 V holding brakes, and integrated thermal protection.

Furthermore, the motors support several encoder technologies, including SFD3, SFD-M, HIPERFACE DSL, EnDat 2.2, and resolver feedback. Consequently, engineers can integrate the motors with many motion control systems.

Ideal for Industrial Automation

Because of its performance and flexibility, the AKM2G supports a wide range of industrial automation applications, including:

  • CNC machining equipment
  • Robotics and motion control systems
  • Packaging machinery
  • Semiconductor manufacturing equipment
  • Automated assembly lines
  • Linear and gantry motion systems

In many systems, engineers pair the motors with AKD or AKD2G servo drives from Kollmorgen. Together, these components create a reliable and high-performance motion control solution.

Summary

The AKM2G expands the proven AKM Series by delivering higher torque density, advanced encoder technology, and greater configuration flexibility. As a result, machine builders and automation engineers gain a compact and efficient servo solution for demanding industrial applications.
