Optical Solid Shaft Incremental Encoders

Rotary encoders are electro-mechanical devices used to monitor the position and angular velocity of rotating mechanical shafts. Among them, rotary incremental encoders are so named because they measure changes relative to a reference position rather than absolute positions. That is, they track incremental motion, regardless of the rotation direction.

These encoders generate a series of electrical pulses as the shaft rotates. By counting these pulses, the system can determine rotation, speed, and acceleration. However, because they do not maintain an absolute position, the zero (or reference) point must be re-established each time the system is powered on or restarted.

Rotary encoders are electro-mechanical devices designed to control the position and the angular speed of mechanical axles in motion. Rotary incremental encoders are so defined since they track the increase (variation) in respect to a position taken as a reference point and independently from the direction of the rotation. The incremental encoder senses rotation, speed and acceleration by counting the number of pulses sent by the output circuit, but the zero point must be reset at every new start.
