Kollmorgen DDL Direct Drive Linear Motors provide precise, high-performance linear motion without the mechanical transmission components used in conventional systems such as ball screws, belts, gearboxes and rack-and-pinion assemblies. By directly coupling the motor to the load, DDL technology eliminates mechanical backlash and helps improve accuracy, dynamic performance and machine reliability.

The DDL range includes ironcore, low-profile ironcore and ironless linear motor designs, enabling the motor technology to be matched to different application requirements. Ironcore motors provide high force density for moving heavier loads, while ironless designs eliminate cogging for exceptionally smooth motion and precise positioning. Low-profile ironcore models combine high force capability with a compact mechanical profile.

Eliminating mechanical transmission components reduces backlash, compliance and mechanical wear while increasing system stiffness. This enables high positional accuracy, smooth velocity control and rapid acceleration, making DDL motors particularly suitable for machines requiring fast and repeatable linear positioning.

The latest IC Ironcore DDL models support 230 V, 400 V and 480 V systems, with continuous force ratings up to 8,211 N and peak force up to 13,448 N. A broad range of motor sizes and force capabilities enables DDL technology to be applied to applications ranging from precision positioning through to demanding industrial machine automation.

When combined with Kollmorgen AKD or AKD2G servo drives, DDL linear motors provide a complete direct drive motion solution for machine tools, semiconductor manufacturing, robotics, battery production, inspection and test equipment, gantry systems and other high-performance industrial automation applications.

Micromech supplies Kollmorgen DDL Direct Drive Linear Motors as part of its range of linear motors, servo drives and complete motion control solutions for UK OEMs and machine builders.
